This is the third week of Project 2. You will be working on your final data piece which you will present next week on the End Show (End Show is on Tuesday April 26). Welcome to week 1 of Project 2!
If you’re wondering what Project 2 is about and what we’re going to do, you might want to read the post below. There’s an introduction video and some other resources to have a look at.
Data source: the book ‘After the Deluge’
In project 2 we are taking a book as a data source. The book is called ‘After the Deluge’, made by the Dutch photographer Kadir Lohuizen. You can find a download link to a .pdf from the book in your e-mail.
If you can’t access the .pdf, don’t worry. In that case you can use this website. The website is full with information and images from the book and is just as good as a data source.

Week 1 assignments
In the coming three weeks you will be working towards an end product by making some assignments every week. Martha and Marieke explain to you what the first steps and assignments are in this week in this video:

Online video meeting
On Tuesday April 5 you can have an online video chat with the instructors of Project 2 to ask questions, just say hello or discuss your ideas. We have two options, considering the different timezones.

Project 2 for CCDV 2022 is hosted by Marieke and Martha, both independent designers and teachers at the Communication and Multimedia program in Amsterdam. In this video Martha and Marieke tell you what to expect from Project 2:

Structure and planning
In the project you will be working towards an end goal, the final assignment: ‘Physical Data Visualisation in Public Space’. To get there, Martha and Marieke will guide you through the design proces with weekly smaller assignments and tasks. Every Monday we will post a video explaining the weeks task and a Miro board to post your work and progression.
The project will start on Monday, April 4. At that day we will post the first sub assignments / weekly tasks. If you have question or like to get some feedback on your work, you can meet-up online with Martha and Marieke on these days and hours:

Preparations
Before we start, there are a couple of things you can do as a preparation:

-Start spotting locations, look for grids and interesting places, make pictures (check out the examples at the end of the introduction video above)
More about the instructors
Project 2 is organised by Marieke and Martha:
‘Hi I am Marieke de Beurs I’m looking forward to teach you in the coming weeks. I’m born and raised on a small dutch Island Texel in the north of Holland. I studied Graphic design at the Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague. I worked as a graphic designer at the dutch renowned design company Thonik and Europe’s most experienced serious games company IJsfontein. Since 5 years I work as an independent designer and have my own studio as graphic designer and illustrator. Besides that, I’m a design teacher Communication and Multimedia Design at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.’

‘Hi I am Martha Lauria, I come from Mexico City where I studied Graphic Communication Design at the Universidad Autonomy Metropolitana (UAM). After my graduation I worked as an art director for a record company; an exciting job that I quitted to do further studies at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Since then I stayed in the Netherlands. I worked for a couple of design companies before establishing my own studio specialised in design identity. In the meantime I got a master degree in Design Management and became Design Thinking Facilitator and Behavioural Designer. I am also a graduate coach and teacher in Communication and Multimedia Design at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Looking forward to meeting you all!
